Lexington to Host 2014 Dixie Youth World Series

Leaders expect the baseball and softball tournament to bring thousands of visitors to the area and generate millions of dollars.

Lexington will host a baseball and softball tournament in 2014 that will bring 8,000 to 10,000 people to the Lexington area. 

The 2014 Dixie Youth World Series will be at the Lexington Sports Complex on Ball Park Road. 

Lexington County leaders are returning home from Bartow, Florida — host of this year's tournament — Tuesday after winning the hosting rights to the 2014 tournament.

The team of leaders include Town of Lexington Mayor and Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Randy Halfacre, Town Councilman Danny Frazier, Town Councilman Ted Stambolitis, Lexington County Councilman Johnny Jeffcoat, and leaders of the and Lexington Dixie Baseball League.

The Lexington Sports Complex will host three baseball series — for 8 and 9-year-olds, and for 10 and 11-year-olds — which include teams from 11 states ranging from Florida to Texas to Virginia.

Leaders expect the tournament to generate between $1.6 and $1.9 million for the Lexington community.
