A local mother honors her late son, and the life he has given to others
One night, three years ago, 19-year-old Jesse Miller Gamble of Lexington finished his shift at Terra Restaurant in West Columbia, hopped on his bicycle, and took off. But he never made it home. While crossing the Blossom Street bridge, a drunken driver struck Gamble, causing massive injuries. The next day, Gamble -- who had been graduated from Lexington High School the previous summer, and had visions of being an art teacher -- died. The story could have simply ended there. Instead, Gamble created a living legacy in death. Upon receiving his driver's license years earlier, Gamble had checked the box to become an organ donor.
