Fire Damages 3 Lexington Homes

A house fire in the Richmond Farms neighborhood Wednesday damaged houses next door.

A house fire in Lexington's Richmond Farms neighborhood Wednesday afternoon destroyed one home and damaged two others, according to a press release from the Lexington County Department of Public Safety.  The residents of 132 Mews Court were home when the fire started around 3:30 p.m., but escaped with no injuries. Firefighters had the fire under control by 4 p.m.  The fire started after a cigarette was improperly disposed of on the second-floor balcony of the home, firefighters say. The estimated damage to the home is $280,000. Two neighboring homes suffered heat damage. The estimated cost of that damage is $5,000 and $8,000 respectively. The Lexington County Fire Service reminds smokers to completely put out cigarettes when finished …

Lexington Officers Awarded for Saving Residents from Fire

Four Lexington Police officers evacuated residents from an apartment building fire on Valentine's Day.

The residents of a Lexington apartment building survived a fire in the early hours of Valentine's Day thanks to the actions of four officers with the Lexington Police Department.  Officer Earl Alewine, who was the first on the scene of the fire, received the Lexington Police Department's first-ever Medal of Valor at Monday's town council meeting.  When Alewine arrived at Chimney Ridge Apartments around 12:41 a.m. on Feb. 14, he saw heavy black smoke coming from building 400. From a window outside, he saw a woman sitting on a bed that was on fire in one of the first-floor apartments. Alewine rushed in and removed the woman, who was in a state of shock and was suffering from smoke inhalation. The woman was taken to the hospital for minor …

Fire destroys Lexington home

Residents not home during blaze

Firefighters remained on the scene this morning after a fire destroyed a home in Lexington last night. Flames engulfed the home at 611 Brandon Court shortly after 8 p.m. on Thursday. Fire crews from six different stations responded to the fire, but could not do much to save the home. While the brick foundation remained intact, the entire second floor of the house burned out and significant damage also occurred in the garage and throughout the ground floor. The fire did not spread beyond the home and the cause remains under investigation. According to the fire department, the fire caused no injuries and no one was at the home when it broke out.
