'Celebrate Art in Lexington' Raises Money for Art Classes for Children

Support local arts by attending the "2012 Celebrate Art in Lexington" event in the Old Mill.

Local businesses are teaming up with art advocates to raise money for after-school art enrichment programs for children.  Cafe Chartier is hosting the "2012 Celebrate Art in Lexington" event, starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Cotton Grill will provide a cash bar. The event is organized by Alexandra White, organizer for Art in Public Places for Lexington.  Event attendees are asked to pay $5 admission or bring new or gently used art supplies instead. (See list of needed art supplies below.) The money and supplies will be used for art classes at Lexington Art Studio for students who don't have the opportunity to explore the arts at their schools and whose families can't afford the cost of after-school art programs. Best Of Patch: Cafe Chartier Captures Coffee Crown

The East Main establishment gets the nod for Lexington's best cup of joe.

Though barely a year old, Lexington's Cafe Chartier is beginning to make a name for itself in local foodie circles. And, oh yeah, they brew a mean cup of coffee, too. Good enough that the cafe, located in Lexington's Old Mill on East Main Street, has claimed the top spot in this week's Best Of Patch poll asking readers for Lexington's best cup of coffee.  The cafe, owned and operated by Ernie and Leslie Chartier, garnered 59 percent of the vote in Patch's unscientific poll, far outpacing second- and third-place finishers, Jamestown Coffee Company and Starbucks, respectively. A great cup of coffee is only as good as its source, and Leslie Chartier believes the cafe has found a gem in roaster Mick Carnett of Turtle Creek Coffee in Columbia…
