Absentee Voting High in Lexington County

Thousands of Lexington County residents have cast their absentee ballots already.

About 75 people were waiting in line Wednesday afternoon at the Lexington County Registration and Election Commission to cast their absentee ballots. But election officials said voters were getting through that line quickly. More than 9,000 Lexington County residents have voted absentee as of Friday, according to the S.C. Election Commission. That number includes in-person and mail-in absentee ballots. About 15,000 Lexington County residents voted absentee in the 2008 election. The elections office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday for voters to cast their absentee ballots. Who are you voting for? Record Absentee Voters Shut Down State System

Tuesday's voting temporarily stalled as state reset absentee voting machines to account for large volume of voters.

A flood of absentee voting in the Palmetto State temporarily stalled voting across the state on Tuesday morning. The system was down for about 10 minutes as the state reset absentee voting machines to allow for a greater capacity of voters, according to Dorchester County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Director Joshua Dickard.  "There was a threshold of how many voters a county could have," Dickard said. He added that Charleston County's increased absentee voting numbers seemed to be the root of the reboot for all counties.   Absentee voting began Oct. 22 and ends Friday, Nov. 2 in Summerville.
