Whenever you are losing a tire, (or have have one blow up) pedal off the gas, coast, and keep theRead More steering wheel as straight as you possibly can, which requires a firm grip on the wheel with both hands because the steering wheel will likely pull one way or the other. On higher center of gravity vehicles, rear tire failure is almost always worse that front tire failure. You are trying to recover stability. (Most people panic and over respond, when the vehicle swerves, which guaranties the vehicle will flip) Gently, turn ( as you are able ) one or two degrees max to the right, to find a safe shoulder, (avoiding any vehicles) and only after you have lost 10 - 20 mph, and are traveling straight, SLIGHTLY pump your brakes until full control is recovered. This will get you out of trouble 90% of the time. I am used to these techniques, and can turn on the four way emergency flashers after the first 15 seconds.
