Centers for Advanced Study for Lexington High School Students

I was recently perusing the opportunities available to Lexington students through the various Centers for Advanced Studies that are offered at the Lexington Technology Center, Lexington High School, and the new Lexington River Bluff High School. I was very impressed by the choices offered and the integration of technology resources into the programs.
At the Lexington Technology Center, there are 7 courses available in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) areas of concentration, which are open to sophmores, juniors, and seniors.
This program involves collaborative studies combined with project-based learning which engages students to develop problem-solving skills.
The PC resources are substantial, and the Internet is used to connect students to their curriculum, which also gets them out of the classroom environment and a chance to pursue interests during after-school hours. If you are a motivated and self-starter type of student, there are many opportunities available.
Lexington High School's Center for Advanced Study includes World Language and International business. Upon graduation, the student is truly prepared to embark as a global citizen, with leadership skills the the job market desires and looks for.  The student also gains an increased understanding of other cultures, and acquires the skills necessary to conduct business at an international level. The program is open to sophmore, junior, and senior students, and is designed for students who are tracked to complete 3 years of a target language. The Center will be offering a more comprehensive coursework program for the 2013-2014 school year.
The Lexington high school, River Bluff, is a beautiful, new high-school that is well equipped with facilities for their Law and Global Policy Development program, which focuses on case studies of environmental issues. The Center also offers a Multimedia Arts Design and Production program, which involves 5 paths:

  • Music Technology
  • Video Production & Television Broadcast
  • Technical Theater
  • Commercial Photography
  • Digital Media Design & Animation

The school facilities are excellent, and provide state-of-the-art technology in their programs. This area has already won numerous national awards and it doesn't surprise me, considering the talent of the student body and teachers involved. With these outstanding programs, South Carolina will truly remain on the technology cutting edge.
