UPDATED: Lexington's Scott Earley Resigns as Head Football Coach, Athletics Director

Earley told his coaching staff and players that he wants to move closer to family in North Carolina.

Lexington High's head football coach and athletics director has resigned from his positions with Lexington School District One effective immediately, according to several media reports.

Earley has not said where he will coach next, according to the report. Read more here

Mary Beth Hill, Lexington One's chief communications officer, also confirmed with Patch that Earley did announce he was leaving Lexington High.

"As he explained to his coaching staff and football players when he met with them earlier this morning, his mother-in-law lives in North Carolina, and his family would like to move closer to her," Hill said. "Earley also would like to pursue some other opportunities."

Hill said Earley wanted to make his intentions known now so that administrators would have enough time to hire his replacement.

Earley has coached at Lexington High since 2010. When he started his base salary was $98,290. His current salary is $103,410.
