Lexington's Race Against Hunger Raises More Than $35K

Thanks to the more than 900 runners who participated in Lexington's Race Against Hunger, more than $35,000 will be donated to charities that fight hunger.

About 50 percent of the money will go to local charities, including Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS), Souper Bowl of Caring, Oliver Gospel Missions, and Area Churches Together Serving (ACTS). The rest of the money will sponsor 13 children and one family through World Vision. 

Participants also donated 856 pounds of food to LICS during a food drive at the event sponsored by Lexington United Methodist Church. 

During its 13 years, Lexington's Race Against Hunger has raised a total of about $310,000 for charities. 

About 90 law enforcement officers, 70 volunteers and 25 business sponsors made this year's event possible.
