Gilbert High Receives Outstanding High Schools That Work Award

Gilbert High received the award for their efforts to improve student achievement.

The Southern Regional Education Board recently named Gilbert High an Outstanding High Schools That Work School. 

Gilbert High was one of only 19 HSTW schools in the nation to receive the award that is based on the success of local school leaders and teachers in improving school practices and increasing the quality of experiences that prepare students.

Dave Spence, president of The Southern Regional Education Board, presented Gilbert High with the award at the 27th annual HSTW Staff Development Conference in Charlotte, N.C. on July 17. He presented the award before an audience of more than 4,000 educators from across the nation attending the HSTW Conference.

Gilbert High received the award for their efforts to improve student achievement by raising the rigor of instruction and increasing staff development.

“Gilbert High has shown what can be accomplished to raise student achievement by deeply implementing the HSTW model for strengthening curriculum and instruction,” said Gene Bottoms, Southern Regional Education Board senior vice president. “The school illustrates the spirit of change that HSTW advocates to get students ready for postsecondary studies and careers.”

As the largest SREB program, HSTW is a national, comprehensive school improvement design based on the premise of school leaders and teachers creating a school environment that motivates all students to succeed.
