Help Me Honor My Soldier

Please help me make my husband's dream come true.

My name is Sara Bradstream and I am married to SSG. Levi Bradstream of the United States Army. I am recovering from breast cancer, and this has been going on more than two years now.

I was told I had cancer while my husband was in Iraq and had the first surgery without him. They did a Lumpectomy and removed about the size of a large lime from the right breast. About three months later, they went back in and they found a massive amount of masses in both breast. So I had six biopsies on each breast and they told me I had Fibrocystic breast disease.

He returned from Iraq and we got orders to pcs to South Carolina, so we had to wait for my double bilateral mastectomy. Since we have gotten here in July I have had four major surgeries and am still looking at two to three more to recover from breast cancer.

I am writing you because I need your help to give my husband his dream come true. He has wanted a motorcycle for the last seven years, but we can never afford it. I have not been able to work for the last two years and I am not sure how much longer it will be because of the cancer. We have moved my mother and aunt here from Texas to help with our girls and with me.

As for us, we live check to check like other military families. We have two high school girls and one has a car and we have another one in the next year. My husband does with out, never gets anything and he spends so much a month going to and from work. We moved to the town with the best high school ratings in the state, both girls plan on college and we want the best education available for them. My husband has a Chevy truck and he loves the old thing, but we are in desperate need of another form of transportation for his drive to and from work.

We have found a bike through a member of our church that is willing to sell my husband a bike for $5,000. I feel like such a failure not being able to help my husband. He has seven people he supports and it is because of this breast cancer that I can do nothing.

This last surgery a week ago was a latissimus dorsi breast reconstruction. I cannot do anything they took my back muscles. I have 4 tubes coming out of me. I cannot drive or cook. I even have to have help bathing.

I pray that you can help me. This would save us so much a month in gas. I have never asked for help, and my husband has never not once asked for help. I just want to make his dream come true. I pray that I hear from you, and this is very hard for me asking for help. But I have had four surgeries since October of 2012 and I have more to come. I want to show him how wonderful he is and how blessed I am to have such an amazing husband. Thank you for your time and I PRAY that I hear back from you.
