Town Council to Vote on Final Reading of Chickens Ordinance
The ordinance is on the December council meeting agenda.
Town council will vote in December on the final reading of an ordinance that would make it easier for Lexington residents to raise chickens in the town limits.
Council voted 5-1 during a work session Monday to put the ordinance on the agenda for the Dec. 3 council meeting. Danny Frazier was the only council member who voted to keep the ordinance off next month's agenda. Councilman Ted Stambolitis was absent.
During the Nov. 5 meeting, council voted to send the ordinance back to work session after two residents expressed concerns about the odor and uncleanliness chickens may cause in residential areas.

The new ordinance would allow chicken coops in residents' back yards as long as they are at least 25 feet from any property line. Only four chickens will be allowed per house. No roosters will be allowed.
