Timmonsville Memorial Will Honor Midlands Soldiers

Two fallen Midlands soldiers will not be forgotten.

Soldiers with the 133rd Military Police Company of the S.C. National Guard will dedicate a memorial Friday at the Timmonsville Armory to honor three fellow soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan June 20, 2012.

Lexington's 1st Lt. Ryan Davis Rawl, 30, and Spc. John David Meador II, 36, of Columbia, along with Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Bradford Thomas, 30, of Easley were killed in Khowst City, Khowst Province, Afghanistan when their patrol was attacked by a suicide bomber. Five other soldiers also were wounded in the incident.

The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. at the Timmonsville Armory, 620 John G. Rose Drive, Timmonsville, S.C. 29161.

The Soldiers were assigned to the 133rd Military Police Company, headquartered in Timmonsville. The mission of the 133rd MP Company in Afghanistan was to train members of the Afghan Uniformed Police in Khowst Province. The unit deployed 170 Soldiers to Afghanistan in November 2011 and returned home August 2012.
