Notes on Votes: Lexington Town Council August 6

Town council approved first readings of ordinances to purchase one piece of property and to annex two others.

Lexington Town Council voted Tuesday to approve the purchase of a piece of property near the and to annex two other properties. 

Council members approved the first reading of an ordinance for the purchase of .86 acres at 113 South Church Street at the end of Maiden Lane. The property backs up to the , a former school building that the town now rents out for events.

The town will pay $95,000 for the property. Purchasing the lot, which houses a three-bedroom, one-bath house, will connect the Palmetto Collegiate Institute with the downtown area, Mayor Randy Halfacre said Tuesday.

Council members also approved the first reading of an ordinance to annex a property on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Homeplace Road. Bojangles is purchasing the 1.13-acre lot with plans to build a new restaurant.

Council also approved the first reading of an ordinance to annex a 1.06-acre property at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Darby Ambrose Road. South Carolina State Credit Union owns the land and plans to build a new branch office on the site.

The final reading of an ordinance for the issuance of bond anticipation notes to help finance the town's water and sewer system improvements was also approved.
