West Columbia Man Third Suspect to be Charged in ATV Theft

A 52-year-old man is one of three people arrested in connection with a stolen ATV.

Lexington County Sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday arrested a West Columbia man accused of possessing a stolen an all-terrain vehicle.

Michael Todd Williams, 52, of April Road, is charge with receiving stolen goods, according to a sheriff’s department release. He was being held on a $5,000 bond Wednesday at the Lexington County Detention Center.

An arrest warrant alleges that on Sept. 16, Williams possessed a 2013 CF Moto X-500 all-terrain vehicle worth about $5,000 that was stolen on Aug. 28 from outside a home on Savannah Highway near Swansea. Detectives say Williams had reason to believe that the vehicle was stolen when he bought the vehicle for considerably less than its market value.

Detectives also say Williams tried to repair the vehicle’s ignition system, which was damaged when the suspects who stole the vehicle tried to hotwire the vehicle. 

Williams is one of three people arrested in connection with the stolen ATV.

Robert Daniel Davis Jr., 51, of Swansea, was arrested Monday and charged with grand larceny. He was released from the detention center Tuesday after posting a $5,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s department.

Gene Carroll “Fuzzy” Rutland Jr. was arrested on Sept. 20 and charged with six counts of grand larceny.

Rutland was being held Wednesday at the county Detention Center on bail totaling $50,000.
