Man Arrested for Sex Act With Gilbert Girl

Deputies say the 22-year-old man from Surfside Beach met the girl in an Internet chat room.

Deputies arrested a 22-year-old man on charges that he engaged in a sexual act with a 14-year-old Gilbert girl he met in an Internet chat room.

Derrick Bryant Amann of Surfside Beach is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

Amann drove to Gilbert from his Surfside Beach home Tuesday to meet with the girl, according to the sheriff's department. Arrest warrants say that the girl performed a sexual act on Amann while they were in the front seat of his Buick Regal sedan on Neely Wingard Road near Gilbert.

The girl's father woke up around 6 a.m. Tuesday and realized his daughter and his cell phone were missing, according to the sheriff's department. When he called the cell phone, his daughter answered and told him she was off Neely Wingard Road. 

When the father drove to Neely Wingard Road, he saw a 2000 Buick Regal sedan parked in the woods off of a driveway, according to the sheriff's department. He parked behind the car.

Several minutes later, the girl got out of the passenger's side of the car, according to the sheriff's department. The father told deputies that when he walked up to the driver's side of the car, he saw Amann with his athletic shorts pulled down to his ankles and no shirt. 

Deputies arrived shortly after the girl's father saw Amann. Detectives later arrested him. 

Amann is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.

Second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor between the ages of 11 and 14 is a felony that carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison.
