Brett Parker Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder

The three-week trial ended Tuesday.

Brett Parker will spend the rest of his life in prison for the April 2012 murders of his wife, Tammy Parker, and gambling partner, Bryan Capnerhurst.

A Richland County judge sentenced Brett Parker to two consecutive life sentences without parole Tuesday night, according to WIS.

The jury delivered the verdict after less than three hours of deliberation, bringing the 13-day trial to a close. 

During the more than two weeks of testimony, prosecutors convinced the jury Brett Parker was a . They say the shootings were part of Parker's plan to collect more than $1 million in insurance money to pay off his gambling debt and get out of his marriage.

But Brett Parker's defense attorneys argued that Capnerhurst came to the Parkers' Ascot Estates home on April 13, 2012 to rob him and killed his wife during the robbery. 

Prosecutors and defense attorneys delivered closing arguments Tuesday for more than five hours. Jurors then began deliberations around 4:30 p.m. and came back with the guilty verdicts around 7:30 p.m.
