Funeral for Teen Who Drowned Set for Saturday

The funeral for the 17-year-old Batesburg teen who drowned Sunday in Lake Murray will be held Saturday. 

The service for Waeland Peeples is scheduled for 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Batesburg. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Milton Shealy Funeral Home in Batesburg.

Peeples was a rising senior at Batesburg-Leesville High School and a member of ROTC and the Panther Band, according to his obituary. Read his full obituary.

Peeples drowned Sunday afternoon in Lake Murray near Riverbend Point in Saluda County, according to WIS. He and a friend jumped off a pontoon boat to swim to shore, but ran into some sort of trouble.

A memorial service in honor of Peeples was held Thursday night at the Batesburg-Leesville High School rock, according to a Facebook page set up in honor of the teen.
