Road Construction for Richland, Lexington Counties: Sept. 16

Road construction advisory for areas in both Richland and Lexington counties.

The following was provided by the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Motorists can expect delays, lane closures and flagging operations on the following roads:

  • Expect delays, nighttime lane closures and periodic lane shifts for a 10 mile work zone to widen Interstate 20 from Interstate 77 (MM 74.7) past Spears Creek Church Road (MM 84.6) in Richland County. Completion is anticipated summer 2014.
  • Expect minor delays, flagging operations and possible nighttime detours on Alpine Road (under I-20) between Faraway Drive and Polo Road in Richland County while ramp intersections are being improved and I-20 bridges are being widened / reconstructed.  Completion is anticipated summer 2014.
  • Traffic shift on I-20 eastbound began July 12 and will continue approximately 3 to 4 months. This shift will split the eastbound motorists into two separate lanes of traffic bordered by concrete barriers. The right lane will travel adjacent to the eastbound lanes and will be able to access all existing exits. The left lane will travel adjacent to the westbound lanes and will bypass the Clemson Road exit, but will be have access to the Spears Creek Road exit.
  • Expect nighttime lane closures on I-26 from the I-77 interchange (mile marker 115) to S-6/Caw Caw Road. (mile marker 136) in both the eastbound and westbound directions.  Nightly lane closures will continue through July 2015. 
  • Expect nighttime delays on Gervais Street beginning at the Richland County Line and continuing onto Two Notch Road to just past Beltline Boulevard.  The existing asphalt surface will be removed and replaced.  All of the paving wi.ll take place at night.  The anticipated completion date is September 2013
  • Expect delays for flagging operations and lane closures on Sumter Street (S-177) from Whaley Street (S-454) to Blossom Street(S-108) in Richland County for patching and resurfacing.  Completion is anticipated September 2013.
  • Expect delays for flagging operations and lane closures on Lorick Avenue (S-205) from North Main Street (US-21) to the CSX Railroad crossing in Richland County for patching and resurfacing.  Completion is anticipated September 2013.
  • Expect delays for flagging operations and lane closures on N. Brickyard Road (S-1274) from Farrow Road (S-555) to Greensprings Drive (S-3990) in Richland County for patching, widening and resurfacing.  Completion is anticipated September 2013.
  • Expect possible lane closures on Assembly St. (S-48) from Pendleton St. (S-174) to Blossom St. (US 21/76) in Richland County for sidewalk and ADA ramp reconstruction, traffic signal installation, and milling and paving operations. Anticipated completion date is Oct. 31, 2013.
  • Expect lane closures and flagging operations on Hope Ferry Road in Lexington between US-378 and Midway Road for a bridge replacement over 14 Mile Branch Creek.  Construction is expected to be complete May 2014.
  • Effective Aug. 28, 2013, Spring Street between State Street and Shuler Street in City of West Columbia will become a one-way street.  Traffic will be prohibited from traveling east bound or toward State Street on Spring Street.  Traffic will only be able to travel west bound from State Street toward Shuler Street.  Currently this is a two-way street.  This change resulted from a traffic engineering study and should make the roadway safer.
  • Expect delays night time lane closures on Sunset Blvd. (US 378) from I-20 to Corley Mill Rd. (S-68) in Lexington County for Full Depth Patching, Milling, and Resurfacing operations. Anticipated completion date is Sept 30, 2013.
  • Expect delays and flagging operations along Two Notch Rd. (S-77) and Old Wire Rd. (S-1291) for grading, drainage, and paving operations associated with the intersection improvement / relocation. Anticipated completion date isOct. 18, 2013.
  • Effective April 17, 2013, an All-Way stop control will be implemented at the intersection of Hook Land Lane and St. Johns Church Road.  Currently, traffic must stop on Hook Land Lane.  Traffic on St. Johns Church Road does not stop.  This change resulted from a traffic engineering study and should make the intersection safer.  It is located approximately six miles north of Town of Gilbert near Lake Murray.
  • Expect nighttime lane closures for resurfacing on I-26 in Richland and Lexington counties from mile markers 107-115.4 in both the eastbound and westbound directions.  Nightly lane closures are anticipated thru Oct. 31, 2013.
  • Expect lane closures and flagging operations on US-378 in Lexington between George Street and West Butler Street for widening and intersection improvements.  Flagging operations and lane closures will also impact West Butler Street, Reed Avenue, Old Chapin Road, US-1, and Park Road in this vicinity.  Construction is expected to be complete April 2014.
  • Expect minor delays and flagging operations on Broad River Road from Greystone Boulevard to Lucious Road in Richland County for the replacement of the bridge over the Broad River.  This project will require reducing traffic to one lane in each direction.  The expected completion date for the project is the summer of 2014.
  • Expect minor delays for road widening construction on Platt Springs Road (SC 602) taking place between S-168 and Old Orangeburg Road. Expectedcompletion date is November 2013.
  • Expect sporadic delays on McCords Ferry Road (US-601) in Richland County between Robert Wilson Road (S-2546) and Leesburg Road (SC-262) for miscellaneous, final tasks.  Completion is anticipated in September 2013.
  • Expect sporadic delays on Harrison Road (S-93) between Two Notch Road (US-1) and Forest Drive (SC-12) in Richland County for miscellaneous, final tasks.  Completion is anticipated in September 2013.
  • Expect sporadic delays on Sharpe Road (S-130) from Fairfield Road (US-21) to Wilson Boulevard (US-21) in Richland County for miscellaneous, final tasks. Completion is anticipated in September 2013.
  • Expect sporadic delays on Screaming Eagle Road (S-268) between Percival Road (SC-12) and Highway Church Road (S-1904) in Richland County for miscellaneous, final tasks. Completion is anticipated in September 2013.
  • Expect sporadic delays on Hollingshed Road (S-635) in Richland County between Dutch Drive (Local) and Kennerly Road (SC-217) for miscellaneous, final tasks. Completion is anticipated in September 2013.
  • Expect sporadic delays on Prescott Road (S-901) from Ames Road (S-1022) to Fairfield Road (US-321), which includes North Main Street (US-21), in Richland County for miscellaneous, final tasks. Completion is anticipated in September 2013.
  • Expect sporadic delays on Sparkleberry Lane (S-2033) from Clemson Road (S-52) to Two Notch Road (US-1) in Richland County for miscellaneous, final tasks. Completion is anticipated in September 2013.
  • Expect sporadic nighttime delays on Colonial Life Boulevard (S-2963) from Bush River Road (S-31) to I-126 in Richland County for miscellaneous, final tasks. Completion is anticipated in September 2013.
  • 0.2 miles of Sumter Street at 300 Sumter Street (over Rocky Branch Creek) will be closed and detoured for approximately one week in September while asphalt, guardrail and pavement markings are improved.  Completion is anticipated in September 2013.
  • Beginning Sept. 16, Crystal Springs Road (S-32-624) will be closed to through traffic between Falcon Drive and Windy Wood Road for phase 1 of bridge replacement over Scouter Creek.  The detour route will be Old Charleston Road and Edmund Highway.  Signs will be posted marking this route.  The road should re-open to through traffic on Nov. 1, 2013.  This site is located approximately five mile northeast of Town of Pelion.
