Have your folk's folks dropped by for a visit this summer? What about some of your cousins? How much do you love spending time with your relatives? This funny book is about a family visit from start to finish, including the relatives' arrival in a rainbow-colored station wagon. The family travels North from their country home, in Virginia, to visit with their much loved relatives. Once they arrive, they hug and hug, then hug some more! They stay for the ENTIRE summer and have loads of yippee-skippy adventures, including banjo and strawberry picking. The Virginians love to celebrate life, hug everyone they know (and even some they may not) and utlimately like to have a good ol' time.
Another award winning book from the prolific children's writer, Cynthia Rylant, who is best known for her Henry and Mudge books. An excellent read-aloud for the entire family, especially during summer vacation. This is a humorous read that will not only delight most children, but adults alike can take note of the interesting juxtaposition between the text and illustrations. A Caldecott Honor book that is definitely worth a once-over, if not multiple bedtime read-alongs. The impressionist-style illustrations are particularly noteworthy. A prime choice for children ages 3-8.
