Spivey Hall Children's Choir to Tour Columbia and Lowcountry

Acclaimed group from Atlanta area sets June dates in South Carolina.

From Spivey Hall Children's Choir: The Spivey Hall Children’s Choir will be performing concerts in Columbia and Charleston, South Carolina during its 2013 Summer Tour. In Columbia, Dr. Martha Shaw will conduct the internationally recognized choral group in a joint workshop/performance with The Young Sandlapper Singers at St. Michael and All the Angels Episcopal Church. In Charleston, the singers will perform at four senior community centers, as well as during the prestigious Spoleto USA festival as part of the Piccolo Spoleto program. The Spivey Hall Children’s Choir’s June appearances in South Carolina are part of its “Give Back” program. White Knoll High Students Win Awards at Theatre Festival

Several students won individual awards for playwriting or acting.

White Knoll High thespian students traveled to Lander University to compete in the 2013 Palmetto Dramatic Association and S.C. Thespian High School Theatre Festival where they received multiple awards. The group was awarded superior play production for “Stumped,” which was written and directed by White Knoll student Phylisha Mace, and “10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse.” They also received superior ratings in make-up design and ensemble acting. Columbia Open Studios Tours Begin Saturday

Local artists open their studios to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 12 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Do you love art? Have you ever wanted to visit an artist's studio? If you answered yes, then keep reading.  For two days, art lovers will have the opportunity to visit the studios of nearly 60 local artists in both Richland and Lexington counties through 701 Center for Contemporary Art's Columbia Open Studios. The free weekend-long tour allows the public to meet and interact with artists, and see their creative process. The tours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 12 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Lexington One Students Make SC Honor Choir

The students performed with other SC students at the S.C. Music Educators Convention.

Nine students from Lexington One were selected to be a part of the South Carolina Elementary Honor Choir. They performed at the South Carolina Music Educators Convention in February.  The students selected were: They were selected to perform with the prestigious choir after being nominated by their music teacher and performing an extensive audition that included an echo melodic pattern, harmony and an a cappella piece. Once accepted into the choir, students began practicing with their music teachers to prepare for the concert at the S.C. Music Educators Convention, held from Feb. 7 to 9. At the convention, Lexington One students joined with other students from across the state to form the S.C. Honor Choir. Students rehearsed together for …
