Readers' Choice: Name Your Best Hike or Bike Location
We have relaunched our Readers' Choice contest with dozens of new categories, including the best places to hike or bike.
South Carolina’s warm climate sometimes means we’re avoiding the heat in the dead of summer.
But it also means that the rest of the year, we’re free to get out and bike or walk or hike to our heart’s content.
When you’re looking to get the heart rate up, spend some time outdoors with friends or family or just get away, where do you go?
Nominate your favorite place to hike or bike in Irmo, Lexington, Spring Valley or St. Andrews to be part of our “Best Hike or Bike Location” contest as Patch unveils its Readers' Choice. The location must be in or close to one of our Patches to be eligible to win.
Just log in and post your vote in the comments section below. You may nominate multiple places, but please post each nomination in a separate comment so we can make sure they are all counted.
Nominations are due by July 9.
Voting for Readers’ Choice 2012 will begin in late July and winners will be announced in August.

The walking/jogging path across the dam is great in the early morning. Parking is free until 10 or 11 am in the SCE&G lot on the Irmo side, and there is a free lot on the Lexington side. The path across the dam is 1.75 miles. I go early morning and the breeze is great with the turkey vultures hovering in the updrafts on the lake side, and a genuinely friendly cadre of regular walkers/joggers. Try it.

The trails around Harbison are great as well. Get a map from the Harbison Recreation Center, otherwise you could get lost if you leave the path around the lake. I know.
