Opinion: Why Obama Loves Illegal Aliens

Dino Teppara, parliamentarian of the Lexington County Republican Party, expresses his views on Obama's amnesty plan.

Obama loves illegal aliens. I mean, he really loves them. And they love him, too – it’s easy to see why.

Under the president’s amnesty plan, an illegal alien from Mexico living in the U.S. can get his Green Card in just six years – while a person from Mexico currently has to wait up to 16 years for the same Green Card – and must continue living in Mexico the whole time! Under the president’s amnesty plan supported by leftists in Congress, illegal aliens are fast-tracked in front of millions of hard-working legal immigrants and placed at the front of the line for Green Cards. Once there, they can sponsor family members to join them here.

What a deal! Why wait in line for years like hard-working legal immigrants who respect our laws and the quota system we have in place – when you can get personally plucked from the back of the line and placed up front by the president of the United States?

In the second presidential debate held last week, Governor Romney correctly noted that millions of legal immigrants are currently waiting in line for Green Cards and he would not put illegal aliens in front of them. Obama flat out lied in the debate when he said “The first thing we did was to streamline the legal immigration system, to reduce the backlog, make it easier, simpler and cheaper for people who are waiting in line.” But the backlog is still there according to statistics provided by Obama’s own State Department, the byzantine system hasn’t been streamlined at all and according to Obama’s own U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agency, many immigration fees actually increased on his watch.

Further, House Republicans pushed forth an immigration bill last year that passed with overwhelming bipartisan support that would tackle the very issues Obama claimed had been addressed, by adjusting quotas and enabling highly skilled workers with advanced degrees from American universities to get their Green Cards faster. Unfortunately, the bill died in the Democrat-led Senate, killed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senator Dick Durban, who vowed to kill the bill if they couldn’t attach the DREAM Act to it.

Obama also lied when discussing the DREAM Act during the debate, pretending the bill only addresses young children brought here illegally by their parents. In fact, the bill allows illegal aliens up to the age of 35 to qualify for the program.

Most Americans unfortunately don’t know the hardships and challenges of becoming an American citizen. It is a long, hard fought journey. First, you must have a family member or American business legally sponsor you. You must fill out reams of paperwork and applications, in most cases hire attorneys to assist you, and also undergo a health exam. You must be screened for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and other communicable diseases –and you can only see a physician chosen by the federal government. You also have to pay numerous Department of Homeland Security and USCIS application fees on top of your attorney fees.

In addition to the bureaucracy and costs, you have to wait in line. The wait time for employer-based Green Cards ranges from six to 10 years. The wait time for family-based sponsorships are steep for citizens of India, China, Mexico and the Philippines – citizens of China and India must wait 11 years, Mexico 16 years and those from the Philippines a whopping 23 years for their Green Cards! You still need to tack on another five years after that before you’re eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship. Remember, under Obama’s amnesty plan, all illegal aliens from every country in the world living here in the U.S. can become a U.S. citizen in a total of just 11 years.

Most illegal aliens do not pay taxes. They don’t take a health exam and they don’t wait in line to get here. Illegal aliens put themselves first, while legal immigrants put America first. Illegal aliens view America as just a place to work and remit money to their real homes; legal immigrants view America as their homeland, a new beginning for them and their families.

The reason why Obama loves illegal aliens is because they represent the exact opposite of what we want to see all Americans do: follow the rule of law. Illegal aliens are outsiders and that’s what attracts Obama to them. Obama seeks to turn on its head the basic premise of our immigration system, which contains quotas and annual restrictions on the number of immigrants admitted based on their country of origin. Instead of an orderly system, where everyone waits in line for their turn, he wants a chaotic environment where illegal aliens directly compete for slots with legal immigrants from the same countries. This is in line with his worldview, where he eschews order for chaos, be it in the Middle East or the U.S.-Mexican border.

What Obama seeks to do is to fundamentally transform the country in a generation, by pushing forth 10-12 million mostly uneducated illegal aliens to the front of the immigration line. In a decade, these new American citizens and voters will be the next generation of food stamp and welfare recipients, a new, permanent underclass of underachievers, whose basic needs will be subsidized by the rest of us, both native-born and legal immigrants alike. These millions of illegal aliens will undoubtedly be grateful to the Democrat Party for years of future financial largesse, in addition to their shiny, new American passports. They will richly reward Obama and Democrats for years to come at the voting booth.

Now you know why Obama loves illegal aliens, and why they love him. Amnesty is not about doing what’s best for America – it’s about doing what’s best for a political party more interested in winning elections than preserving the rule of law in our Republic, a cornerstone of American thought and jurisprudence since our nation’s founding.
