Lexington residents have a new place to pick up a cup of frozen yogurt. 

Menchie's opens Monday in the Kitty's Korner shopping center near Walmart. 

The shop offers frozen yogurt in flavors ranging from banana to peppermint to dulce de leche. As the largest self-serve frozen yogurt franchise, Menchie's marked the opening of its 200th store in mid-July.

Frozen yogurt was a big hit in the 80s and 90s but lost its popularity — until recently. 

The dessert shops have popped up all over Lexington in the past couple of years. Three opened in 2011: Yumilicious in May, Tutti Frutti in June and Yogen Fruz in December. 

TCBY was around during the first frozen yogurt craze. The Lexington location has been open since the 90s. 

At the new stores, customers serve themselves and can mix the flavors of frozen yogurt. Then, they can choose toppings ranging from fresh fruit to sprinkles for their treat. 

Menchie's has more than 100 flavors and more than 90 toppings available. 

The store opens at 11 a.m. Monday. 

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Aug. 11, with a weeklong grand opening celebration to follow. Here's the schedule:
