Lexington Medical Starts Filming 2012 Pink Glove Dance Video

The video, which will be entered into the Pink Glove Dance contest, will raise awareness about breast cancer and honor cancer survivors.

Lexington Medical Center employees are putting on their pink gloves and dancing to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Filming started Friday for the 2012 Pink Glove Dance contest. Last year, Lexington Medical Center's video beat 130 other health care organizations from the U.S. and Canada in the first-ever Pink Glove Dance contest.

This year, employees will dance to Katy Perry's "A Part of Me." But the video is more than just a dance, said Mark Shelley, director of marketing and advertising and director of the video.

"It’s a show of support for everyone in our community who is fighting cancer,” Shelley said.

The video tells the story of cancer survivor and 16-year Lexington Medical Center employee, Amy Kinard. Throughout the video, Kinard meets other cancer survivors, whose parts are are also played by true survivors and employees at the hospital.

The marketing team will spend another week shooting the video before filming the grand finale — including confetti and fireworks — with hundreds of employees outside the hospital.

Voting for the 2012 Pink Glove Dance will be from Oct. 12 through 26. You can vote during that time by using your Facebook account to like the video on www.medline.com or www.lexmed.com.

Last year's Pink Glove Dance got more than 110,000 views on YouTube and more than 60,000 votes in the contest.
