Lexington High Student Wins Award for Innovation

Hunter Bliss's video won him the Gold award for the S.C. Education Oversight Committee's Video Contest.

When Lexington High senior Hunter Bliss and his friend started making videos about how to use iPads in the classroom, he never thought it would lead to an award.

"It was just me and my friend Adrian (Perez) sitting at my house," Bliss told WLTX, "and we originally started thinking, these iPads are cool and we should make videos to help implement their facilitation." Watch WLTX's story.

Their video-making sessions turned into an afterschool club called The S.P.A.C.E. Program, Students Preparing A Changing Earth. Their videos are uploaded to the group's website, itsabeautifulworld.com

Bliss entered one of his videos in the S.C. Education Oversight Committee's Video Contest and won the Gold prize in the high school category. Their entry had to answer the question, "How would I change schools to prepare me and my fellow students to be innovative?"

His answer: let teachers know that technology empowers people, encourage teachers to be more engaging in classes by watching more videos and reconnect with the humanities.
