Fatal Wreck Leaves Two Dead, A Third Injured

Frances Brown Dounian of Columbia and Mary Ann Collins, a teacher at J.L. Mann High School, both died at the scene. Marian Russell also a teacher at J.L. was injured in the crash.

 

A teacher from J.L. Mann High School was killed and a second injured during a crash on Interstate 95 near Hardeeville Friday.

Mary Ann Collins of Columbia, a teacher at JL Mann High School, died at the scene of the collision. Marian Russell of Greer, also a teacher at J.L. Mann, was injured in the crash and was airlifted from the scene, according to the Island Packet.

A third woman, Frances Brown Dounian of Columbia, also was killed in the crash.

According to the Island Packet, the three women were on their way home from Hilton Head when Dounian, who was driving the vehicle, swerved to avoid debris on the interstate. Traffic was backed up about two hours on the interstate following the crash.

A spokesperson for Greenville County Schools has confirmed that Collins and Russell were teacher at J.L. Mann High School, but referred members of the media to the appropriate authorities for further information about the women.
