Clemson Loss Breaks Haley's Win Streak

Gov. Nikki Haley was 3-0 in friendly wagers with other governors

The Clemson Tigers weren't the only ones to see a successful run come to a disappointing end during Wednesday's Orange Bowl loss to West Virginia.

Gov. Nikki Haley's streak of three-consecutive wins in friendly wagers against other governors also came crashing down.

Haley won bets with Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman during the past seven months, as South Carolina's college teams achieved unprecedented success.

But Wednesday night, West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin finally got the best of Haley  and will get to enjoy some Lowcountry shrimp and grits, thanks to the Mountaineers' 70-33 victory.

Haley previously won a key lime pie after the University of South Carolina won its second-straight College World Series title over Florida. She also won Omaha steaks from Nebraska when the Gamecocks football team won the Capital One Bowl.

Despite its loss Wednesday, Clemson did make good on one of Haley's wagers. The Tigers beat Virginia Tech during the ACC Championship game, landing Haley a Virginia ham, which she later donated to Epworth Children's Home in Columbia.

With college football season over for South Carolina teams and baseball season still months away, Haley may have to wait a while for her chance to rebound and get back to her winning ways.

Well, she needs to stop making these ILLEGAL wagers. It sets a bad example for the people of the state if our Governer participates in illegal gambling.

Is FOOTBALL really THAT important ? Maybe we should be worrying more about the children LEARNING SOMETHING in school instead of being FIRST in FOOTBALL. Wouldn't it be nice to be FIRST in academics instead of 2nd to last ?
